In February of 2019 our company Taking Flight 2019 toured all around Scotland for a week. We delivered 22 different dance workshops to school kids and college students and then performed a show for each of them daily. We performed at 8 schools/college's:

  • Day 1 - In the Festival Theatre Edinburgh with St Augustine's and Currie High School

  • Day 2 - Alva Academy, Stirling

  • Day 3 - Portobello and Gracemount High School Edinburgh

  • Day 4 - Glasgow Kelvin andWest College Scotland

  • Day 5 - Woodpile High School, Dunfermline

During this week I had the opportunity to teach at Portobello High School in Edinburgh. I decided to take the class for a jazz workshop and had them do a technique based warm up before teaching the repertoire from our First Footing piece ' Diamonds', choreographed by lecturer at PASS Zelie Jennings. The piece focussed on the roaring 20's in America such as the Gatsby era and was more of a fun jazz piece than theme based.

The following day I assisted a class in West College Scotland in Glasgow with the NC students. We carried out contemporary warm up before I helped my fellow student Morgan teach rep from our piece 'D.R.E.A.M' choreographed by company member Delphi Doig. This piece was based on woman's rights for African-American's and had a strong theme throughout the full piece.
